Deborah Zachary
Deborah trained in Bradford (middle schools) and taught in London, largely Hackney and Brixton (secondary). She became an inspector with the Inner London Education Authority (ILEA) in an innovative team that carried out full school reviews then continued to work with schools to improve them. After the ILEA was disbanded she moved to the Tower Hamlets inspectorate, where her wide-ranging responsibilities included inspection bids and leading a large overseas-trained teacher programme focused on primary schools.
After leaving London Deborah ran Serco's contract for providing inspections, including responsibility for managing personnel, finance and quality assurance. She piloted inspections and wrote inspector training courses. After that, she continued to provide quality assurance services to Tribal and Serco, and to train inspectors and support schools. She also trained inspectors and wrote an inspection framework for the United Nations, which was used in schools for Palestinian children in five countries.
She currently leads inspections and quality assures reports and evidence bases. For three years she checked most of the reports for schools deemed inadequate in the South. She provides professional support to primary and secondary schools and a number of multi-academy trusts.
